The first stream analyses the emergence of Irish literature as a separate identity, through its development in the Celtic twilight to its insurgent and reflective role in the years of rebellion to our modern Irish writers. This module is enhanced with its accompanying Irish history course which surveys from early mythology and folklore through the Easter Rising and struggle for independence to progressive modern Ireland. The Archaeological Heritage of Ireland course is enriched by the study of local sites and array of excursions. This summer school provides students and professors with an opportunity to immerse themselves in Irish history, literature and culture in an esteemed academic centre with a rich literary and cultural backdrop. This summer school will be of interest to students of literature, history, folklore, cultural studies and liberal arts.

Description: Tallinn University is very proud of its Summer School - on the one hand, every year the simultaneous visit of so many prominent scholars from all over the world most certainly provides the intellectual highlight of the Estonian summer, on the other hand, our summer school has also become a meeting point for young people and inquisitive minds from many countries, and acquaintances and friendships struck up may well continue over many years. For many, this first encounter with Estonia often turns into an Erasmus exchange or even a successful application to one of our English-language MA programmes. This is a story that you may hear from quite a number of people, so don't say you haven't been warned. The friendly atmosphere of solidarity between students and teachers as well as their penchant for academic discussion may have become infectious, and perhaps even addictive. But we have never met anyone who is sorry they came.
