Dear reader,
How's the semester been going? Well, I hope.
Are you interested in learning more about studying abroad from someone who is doing it now or who just recently came back to the States? The British Council has recently posted their latest batch of student blogs. Also, as part of the IIEPassport Student of the Month campaign we are featuring Jeremy Sperling from NYU. He recently studied in Prague and has a great story to tell that you should definitely check out. Finally, our destination of the month feature explores Argentina, and our city portal feature is growing monthly.
One of our annual projects - a destinatin of the month calendar - is fast approaching. If you've studied abroad in any of our featured 08-09 countries (Austria, Ecuador, China, England, Morocco, Italy, Singapore, Peru, Japan, South Africa, Switzerland, or Thailand), or if you're there now, we'd love to feature your pictures and stories both in the calendar and on our website. Please email us for more information or just send us your pictures.
We hope you enjoy.
Cheers,
Josh

Featured Destination of the Month: Argentina
With its diverse landscape, cosmopolitan flair and rhythmic tango, in addition to a strong higher education system, Argentina presents a prime destination for international students. The blend of European and indigenous influences makes the country's culture fascinating to explore. Argentina, the eighth-largest country in the world by land area, comprises most of the southern half of South America, sharing borders with Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay.
Argentina is the site of some of the world's tallest mountains, expansive deserts and impressive waterfalls. The landscape ranges from wild, remote areas in southern Patagonia to the bustling metropolis of Buenos Aires on the eastern coast. Argentina has many miles of Southern Atlantic coastline, as well as the fertile plains of the Pampas that serve as the nation's breadbasket. Argentines are mostly descendants of Spanish and Italian immigrants, as well as indigenous groups, many of whom intermixed with the Europeans during the time of the conquistadores.

Study abroad students receive the experience of a lifetime
By Ekene Ikeme, The Spartan Daily
For some college students, being on campus provides the home-away-from-home atmosphere that helps them with experiencing new beginnings, but some students need to cross the borders to fully experience what life has to offer.
The SJSU Study Abroad program offers students the chance to not only obtain an academic education, but "an amazing adventure," said Dave Rudel, the program's coordinator.
That is exactly what three SJSU students say they experienced during their stay overseas.

Student of the Month - Jeremy Sperling
Jeremy Sperling spent a semester living in the Holesovice region of Prague, through the New York University Prague program in the fall of his sophomore year. It was an open program with many different classes offered. He was a music education major at the time and realized that he wanted to do something different, so he attended political and history classes while abroad. A scholarship covered one-fourth of the cost, while loans helped Sperling afford the rest.
Featured City Portal: Santiago
Santiago is located in the central valley of Chile between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. It is the fifth-largest city in South America and Chile's center of commerce, administration, culture, industry, politics and finance. One of the most modern cities in South America, Santiago is home to more than five million people, accounting for more than one-third of the country's total population.
