Dear reader,
Summer is quickly approaching, so it's really time to get out there and make your study abroad plans for the season. I hope your arrangements are going smoothly!
If you're seeking a truly multicultural experience abroad, check out our destination of the month, the Netherlands, where you'll get a taste of German, Celtic and Frankish culture. Or consider studying abroad in Tokyo, our featured city portal. If neither of those opportunities strike your fancy, read about the experiences of Hannah Kay, the IIEPassport Student of the Month, who studied abroad in Moscow.
If you're an American undergrad considering a Master's degree across the Pond, the Marshall Scholarship could be for you. Let the British Council tell you more about eligibility criteria, deadlines, and how to apply below.
In addition, we have an article written by a student that features helpful hints to consider when you study abroad. We also have information this month on the eighth annual Trans-Atlantic Summer Institute in European Studies (TASI), which will be held in June.
Best wishes for an adventurous summer!
Cheers,
Josh

Featured Destination of the Month: Netherlands
There is much more to the Netherlands, or Holland as it is sometimes known, than its famous windmills, tulips and clogs. Dutch culture was born of Germanic, Celtic and Frankish influences, and the country passed through the hands of the Hapsburgs and the Spanish before obtaining its proud independence. Today the country is even more diverse, harboring sizable populations from the former Dutch colonies of Indonesia and Suriname. The Netherlands never fails to surprise and intrigue outsiders with its blend of Protestant reserve and famously liberal social policies.
The Netherlands is located in Western Europe and borders the North Sea, Belgium and Germany. In addition to its mainland European territory, the country is also comprised of six islands in the Caribbean Sea, including the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba. Major cities include Amsterdam, the official capital; Rotterdam, Europe's largest port; and The Hague, a center for international legal arbitration and the city where the Dutch government is actually located.

Featured City Portal: Tokyo
Tokyo is the center of Japanese culture, and is home to one-third of the universities, as well as the most important cultural institutions, in the country. The city is rich in history, and at the same time it generates a very modern energy with all of its lights, noise and crowds. Streets are crowded day and night, yet it is one of the safest cities in the world.
