Dear reader,
IIEPassport has some exciting things to share with you this month that will surely get you energized for the next semester. Sponsored by New York University, our featured Destination of the Month is the enticing country of Italy. With its abundance of artistic, cultural and historic treasures, students of all levels and fields of study flock to Italy's shores each year. In keeping with this Italian theme, our City Portal is the capital of the Piedmont region, Torino.
For those of you who just can't decide where in Europe you'd like to study, St John University's three-country "Discover the World Program" may be just the ticket. While for film students, the UK's Skillset Screen Academy Network is an impressive group of colleges and universities that are centers of excellence in creative media.
On behalf of the entire IIEPassport team, I'd like to extend our best wishes to you and yours for a very Happy Thanksgiving. Happy reading, and please keep your suggestions coming!
Cheers,
Josh

St. John's University
Spend an exciting semester living and studying in three different countries! With St. John's Discover the World program, you will spend five weeks each in Rome and Paris, then choose from five weeks in either Salamanca or Dublin. Or spend a full semester at our Rome campus immersed in the life of the "Eternal City." Either program offers dynamic service learning opportunities along with 12-18 credits over the academic semester, with courses that are culturally rich, academically challenging, and inspire an appreciation for European culture.
British Council: Setting the Scene for British Film and Arts
From 80s punk to the original "The Office" to award-winning actors, directors and writers, the UK's creative talents are known around the world. The UK's Skillset Screen Academy Network is leading the way in educating students for the film industry. Whether it's the Bournemouth Screen Academy at the Arts Institute of Bournemouth or the Screen Academy at London College of Communication/University of the Arts London and Ealing Institute of Media/EHWLC to the Film School at the University of Wales, students attending classes gain a UK perspective on film. The screen academies in the network were selected through a rigorous assessment process based on criteria developed with direct involvement from key players within all areas of the film industry. To learn more about the different schools within the network, visit www.skillset.org/academies. And, if you'd like to learn about even more film course options in the UK, visit http://www.britishcouncil.org/usa-educationuk.htm and enter "film" as a keyword in the search for a course box.
Featured Destination of the Month: Italy

Italy has been a center of politics, religion and culture since ancient times. With more sites included on UNESCO's World Heritage List than any other country, this distinctive boot-shaped Mediterranean peninsula contains a fascinating physical and architectural record of the history of Western civilization. Add to this a stunning tapestry of graceful landscapes, majestic Alps, golden beaches, vibrant modern cities, enchanting islands and charming villages, and students are sure to enjoy a rich and rewarding study abroad experience.
Some of the most famous civilizations in the world have flourished and declined within Italy's borders, including the Etruscan and Roman civilizations. Christianity, already the official religion of Rome by the 4th century, only strengthened as Roman political power faltered, and became a guiding force in Italian culture. From the Middle Ages through the Renaissance, the music, poetry, literature and visual arts of Italy were heavily influenced by the Christian faith.

Featured City Portal: Torino
The city of Torino, or Turin, is located in the northwestern portion of Italy and is close to the borders of both France and Switzerland. Torino, which means "little bull" in Italian, is the capital of the Piedmont region. The city was recently in the news when it served as host to the 2006 Winter Olympic Games.
Torino was founded more than 2,000 years ago by the Celtic tribe of the Taurini Gauls. The city was overtaken by the Romans, Goths, Lombards and Franks early on in its existence. The 17th century brought about a sort of renaissance period for Torino, which resulted in the foundation of culture, architecture and art.
