Dear reader,

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season.

We kick off this new semester with a truly Peruvian experience. With its overwhelming diversity, Peru offers extraordinary study, volunteer and internship opportunities for students of all levels. To complement this, our featured city is the country's bustling capital and center of higher education, Lima.

St John University's "Discover the World Program" gives you a chance to choose between France, Italy, Spain and Ireland. A fully-accredited semester combined with service learning opportunities, this program is academically and culturally rich.

Be sure to check out Hot Study Abroad Programs to find out about brand new short-term programs in London and Milan for design students, or studying Italian language and culture in sunny Tuscany.

Also, visit us at StudyAbroadFunding.org, our Adviser Center, and our Student Center. We have lots of information and advice to help you make the most of your study abroad experience.

Best wishes for a successful New Year,

Josh

St. John's University

Spend an exciting semester living and studying in three different countries! With St. John's Discover the World program, you will spend five weeks each in Rome and Paris, then choose from five weeks in either Salamanca or Dublin. Or spend a full semester at our Rome campus immersed in the life of the "Eternal City." Either program offers dynamic service learning opportunities along with 12-18 credits over the academic semester, with courses that are culturally rich, academically challenging, and inspire an appreciation for European culture.

Featured Destination of the Month: Peru

An extraordinary experience awaits for those students who choose to study in Peru! With many indigenous peoples and languages, time-honored traditions, ancient ruins, an array of architecture, and an astounding variety of flora and fauna, Peru offers compelling opportunities for study, volunteering and internships.

Peru's higher education system is heavily centered in the nation's capital of Lima. Lima boasts South America's oldest university, the Universidad Nacional Mayor De San Marcos, which was founded in 1551. Other major public universities include Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina - UNALM (La Molina National Agrarian University), Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería (National Engineering University), the Universidad Científica del Sur (Scientific University of the South) and UPC, which specializes in applied sciences. Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola is a well regarded business school, the Universidad de Lima is an important private institution, and the most prestigious medical school is the Cayetano Heredía. Modern Lima's other private institutions include the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, and the Universidad del Pacifico, Peru's leading institution for the study of business administration, accounting and economics.

Featured City Portal: Lima
Lima, the largest city in Peru and its capital, sits on top of a high cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. With a population just over 8 million, Lima has one of the largest and densest urban concentrations in Latin America. Peruvian citizens of Spanish, Asian, Quechuan, Italian, German, and mestizo (mixed European and Amerindian ancestry) heritage alike call the city home.

Lima was founded by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro in 1535 and was dubbed the City of Kings. History majors will be fascinated to learn that it became the most important city in the Spanish Viceroyalty of Peruan, which was an administrative area that included most of Spain's South American possessions during the colonial period. For more than three centuries, Lima was South America's most vital city.
