Dear reader,

In our April issue of the IIEPassport Newsletter, American College Program (ACP) at the University of Fribourg introduces the stunning and culturally-rich country of Switzerland. Internationally recognized for its advances in science and technology and as a global advocate of humanitarian causes, it is clear to see why thousands of students of all levels and disciplines study here each year.

Sponsored by Kent State University, our featured City of the Month is the historic and cosmopolitan Geneva. A hub for international organizations, Geneva is an excellent destination for students seeking an internship in international relations, but there is virtually no limit to the fields of study that may be studied in this dynamic city.

If you're unsure of where in Europe you might like to study, St. John's University's "Discover the World Program" gives you a chance to choose between France, Italy, Spain and Ireland. A fully-accredited semester combined with service learning opportunities, this program is academically and culturally rich. The spring semester will soon be coming to a close, and most of you will be preparing to return home. Be sure to visit our Student Center for advice that will help make your re-entry as smooth as possible. To make the most out of your future study abroad experiences, please visit Hot Study Abroad Programs, StudyAbroadFunding.org and our Adviser Center.

Please share these wonderful opportunities with your friends, colleagues and classmates.

Best regards,

Josh
Your IIEPassport Manager

St. John's University

Spend an exciting semester living and studying in three different countries! With St. John's Discover the World program, you will spend five weeks each in Rome and Paris, then choose from five weeks in either Salamanca or Dublin. Or spend a full semester at our Rome campus immersed in the life of the "Eternal City." Either program offers dynamic service learning opportunities along with 12-18 credits over the academic semester, with courses that are culturally rich, academically challenging, and inspire an appreciation for European culture.

Switzerland boasts some of the most spectacular scenery in all of Europe, but the breathtaking Alpine landscape is only one of this country's many draws for students. Bordering France, Italy, Germany, Austria and Liechtenstein, Switzerland regards cultural pluralism as an inseparable part of its national identity. This dynamic country is internationally recognized for its advances in science and technology, its role as a global advocate for humanitarian causes, and its countless contributions to the arts. Add to this a modern infrastructure and excellent universities, and it is easy to see why thousands of students of all levels study abroad in Switzerland each year.

Nestled between the Alps and Jura Mountains in the crossroads of Western Europe, Geneva is the second largest city in Switzerland, after Zurich. It lies in the southwest near the border with France, at the western end of Lake Geneva, where the Rhone flows out of the lake. Its majestic castles, pristine lakes and international organizations draw visitors from around the world, many of whom decide to stay. In fact, more than 35 percent of the city's residents are expatriates, making it very easy for study abroad students to assimilate. The city is extremely cosmopolitan, and English is widely spoken.

Education is a top priority in Switzerland, which is known to have a world-class education system with quality instructors. Home to more than 25 Nobel Prize winners, the country boasts more than 500 years of tradition in higher education. Classes are taught in French, German and Italian, and institutions of higher education have strong partnerships with industry and international organizations.
