Dear reader,
In the May issue of the IIEPassport Newsletter, we set our sights on the fascinating continent of Asia where SUNY Brockport takes us to the enchanting country of Thailand. With more than 100 institutions of higher education, Thailand offers a diverse range of opportunities for students of all levels and fields of study. Its delectable cuisine, inspiring temples, tropical climate, stunning landscape and fascinating history are sure to provide a rich and rewarding study abroad experience.
In recent years, China has emerged as a global economic powerhouse, and increasing numbers of American students are drawn to this dynamic country. Situated on China's East Coast on the great Yangtze River is the country's major mainland port and most populous urban center, the bustling industrial city of Shanghai. The University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) invites you to explore one of China's most important cultural and commercial centers.
For students considering a European study abroad experience, but can't decide where to go, St. John's University's "Discover the World Program" lets you choose between France, Italy, Spain and Ireland. For other study abroad opportunities, be sure to check out Hot Study Abroad Programs, Germany.IIEPassport.org and Australia.IIEPassport.org.
There's also lots of advice and information to help make the most out of your study abroad experience at our Student Center, Adviser Center and StudyAbroadFunding.org
Please feel free to share this newsletter with your colleagues and fellow students. As the spring semester comes to a close, I would like to wish each of you a pleasant and safe summer.
Cheers,
Josh

St. John's University
Spend an exciting semester living and studying in three different countries! With St. John's Discover the World program, you will spend five weeks each in Rome and Paris, then choose from five weeks in either Salamanca or Dublin. Or spend a full semester at our Rome campus immersed in the life of the "Eternal City." Either program offers dynamic service learning opportunities along with 12-18 credits over the academic semester, with courses that are culturally rich, academically challenging, and inspire an appreciation for European culture.

With skyrocketing economics, increasingly effective business and over a billion people, China is becoming one of the most influential countries in the world. And Shanghai, with its Star Wars-esque skyline hovering over the Yangtze River Delta, is one of the most important cities in China.
The largest city in the People's Republic of China, and the eighth largest city in the world, Shanghai is the root of China's booming economy, and serves as one of the most important commercial, cultural, industrial, financial and communication centers in the country. Considered the birthplace of modern China, Shanghai saw such innovations as the first motor car driven in the country, the first set of train tracks and the first version of modern sewers. It is also, as of 2005, the largest cargo port on the planet. As far back as the year 960, when Shanghai was a part of the Song Dynasty (which marked the reunification of China for the first time since the fall of the Tang Dynasty almost 20 years earlier), the city served as a seaport, granting China access to other parts of the world.
